The Roof Claim Inspection and Photo Checklist

How to document a roof so the scope survives review, and what to verify on the carrier's estimate before you accept it.

Three pages. Print it, put it on a clipboard, and run it on every storm claim. The photo sequence is field-ordered, ground to roof. The estimate review is the same sequence we use before a supplement leaves our desk.

1

The 37-item photo sequence

Ground-level walk-around, structural and edge details with a tape measure in every shot, roof overviews, components and penetrations, then problem areas. Numbered so a crew can run it in order.

2

Attic and decking underside

The shots most crews skip: sheathing condition from inside, framing, ventilation, and moisture. This is what carries a decking replacement line.

3

Chalk protocol for wind damage

Mark, overview, close up, test square. All four steps on a slope before you move to the next one, so damage density reads clearly per slope.

4

Twenty line items to verify

Checks against the carrier's estimate, each with its Xactimate code, cross-referenced to the field photo that proves it. The items most often missing, miscoded, or underquantified.
