Symbility vs Xactimate: What Contractors Need to Know

By Kyle Hamrick · March 22, 2026

If you've been doing insurance roofing work for a while, you've almost certainly worked with Xactimate — the estimating platform used by the majority of U.S. insurance carriers. But you may have encountered a carrier estimate that looks different: different format, different line items, different software. That's probably Symbility.

What Is Symbility?

Symbility (now part of CoreLogic, rebranded as CoreLogic Symbility) is an insurance estimating platform used by some carriers as an alternative to Xactimate. While Xactimate is the dominant platform — used by State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, Liberty Mutual, and most major carriers — Symbility has a meaningful presence, particularly with some regional carriers and specialty lines.

From a contractor's perspective, a Symbility estimate looks and feels different from an Xactimate estimate. The line items use different codes, the format is different, and the pricing methodology differs in some areas.

Key Differences That Matter for Supplements

Pricing methodology

Xactimate pricing is regularly updated via a national database and varies by zip code. Symbility pricing is also localized but uses a different pricing engine. The same labor task may pay differently between platforms.

Line item codes

Xactimate uses specific alpha codes (e.g., RFG 220, DWL 200). Symbility uses its own code structure. Supplement writers need to know both systems to write correctly on each platform.

Supplement submission process

Supplementing on a Symbility claim follows a similar logic to Xactimate — you identify missed items and request additional payment — but the documentation format and submission method may differ by carrier.

Overhead and Profit

O&P on Symbility claims follows the same logic as Xactimate — it's warranted when the job requires GC coordination across multiple trades. But carriers sometimes treat the threshold differently between platforms.

Which Carriers Use Symbility?

Carrier platform assignments change over time, so always verify with the specific carrier. Historically, some carriers known to use or have used Symbility include: Intact Financial (primarily Canadian), some divisions of Zurich, and several regional carriers. When you get a claim and the estimate doesn't look like Xactimate, ask the carrier directly which platform they use.

Does The Estimate Company Handle Symbility Claims?

Yes. We work with both Xactimate/XM8 and Symbility. The supplementing principles are the same — identify what the carrier missed, document it, submit it — regardless of which estimating platform the carrier uses.

If you have a Symbility claim and aren't sure how to supplement it, send it to us. We'll tell you exactly what's missing and write the supplement in the appropriate format.

The Bottom Line

Whether your carrier is using Xactimate or Symbility, the fundamental truth is the same: carriers write conservative initial estimates, and those estimates are negotiable. The platform changes the format, not the opportunity.

Have a Symbility claim you're not sure how to supplement?

We work with both platforms. Send us the estimate — we'll tell you exactly what's missing.
